Hi! I hope I can help narrow this down for you, if only approximately. The timeline in dmmd is unfortunately scattered throughout like vastly different parts of gameplay but I think I’ve managed to sort them out! I’ll put it below with my results although I think I can’t give an exact answer…

* Aoba is born 23 years ago

* Tae stopped working for Toue 20 years ago (Aoba 3) and returned to Midorijima. Probably she adopted Haruka around this time with Haruka a teenager?

* Aoba age 5 or 6, adopted by his parents. (Aoba’s age at adoption estimated based on the next few timeline points since we know Koujaku left around when Aoba was 12 or 13)

* 3 years after adoption (Aoba probably 8 or 9), Toue began restricting movement on the island and his parents left while they could.

* Very shortly after his parents left, Aoba met Koujaku (Aoba 8 or 9, with Koujaku 12 or 13).

* Koujaku leaves 4 years later (Aoba 12 or 13, Koujaku 16 or 17).

* “Some years” after his parents left, and shortly after Koujaku did, Aoba began to go out of control.

* When Aoba was 13 (ten years ago), and early in his out of control era, he found and activated Ren.

* Platinum jail ALSO opened on the island when Aoba was 13 (the event in the true route is the “10 years anniversary”). So when Aoba was 13 it was also a time of political upheaval since Toue was trying to convince the islanders to leave, cutting off water and supplies iirc.

* Starting from sometime after he was 13, he used Ren to play Rhyme; it was after starting Rhyme that he met Virus and Trip. This period lasted a few years but we’re not given details on how many, we just know he established his reputation.

* He had the ‘accident’ and went even more out of control after, lonely and angry. No specific time given.

* He made friends with Mizuki after the accident and passed his time as a wild kid, often not returning home for days, and the two of them passed time like this.

* On his 20th birthday he saw his grandmother crying over him and cleaned up his ways. Other events that happened when he was 20: Koujaku returned; he started to hang out with Virus and Trip “after several years”, and Toue put in restrictions making it impossible to leave the island.

ANYWAY that’s the full timeline I could piece together this morning, but it’d put Aoba “a few years” older than 13 and a “few years” younger than 20 (since he hadn’t seen Vitri for several years), so I’d guess him to be around 16/17 when the accident occurred?

Idk how well this would contribute to what you’re saying, but the reason no one can find where Tae mentioned Aoba playing Rhyme about ten years ago is because Tae was never the one who said it. It was Noiz!

He also mentions Usui and the regulations beginning about 6-7 years ago. That gives about 3-4 years beforehand for Sly Blue’s reputation to be established? Perhaps it’s also around that time frame when he met Virus and Trip? I’m a little (very) rusty on canon details since I have yet to replay certain routes (Ren and Vitri tbh). But maybe the ‘accident’ occurred 6-7 years ago when Aoba was 16/17 (as you’ve said) and that could have possibly prompted Rhyme regulation in the first place? Seeing as Aoba’s presence was starting to become known and Toue had an idea of him still being alive? And therefore, Vitri did their best to stop Toue from finding Aoba but by then, Usui became a thing.

At least, that’s how I remember it. Feel free to correct me since like I said, I’m rusty on canon hahaha

This is perfect, thank you so much for digging that up! We do know Aoba got out of Rhyme before it was an organized thing with Usui involved (whether Usui was brought in BECAUSE of accidents like Aoba’s or Vitri knew between Aoba’s actions and Usui getting developed Aoba’d be hard to hide). So, if Usui was brought on 6-7 years earlier, Aoba would have stopped playing at probably 16ish, yeah! Thank you so much for this contribution, it’s a huge help.

Also, I just thought of this, but when is Morphine said to have disappeared? Because morphine had to be around for at least part of this, yeah?

I did a quick look through and it looks like the reference is only “some years ago”, unfortunately. There may be more info that I’m missing from the quick check — I’ll keep an eye out!
